aluminum plates cut to your desired size

What is the difference between an aluminum sheet and an aluminum plate?

A distinction is usually made between aluminum sheets and aluminum plates. Aluminum sheets are generally used for thicknesses up to approx. 8 mm. Aluminum plates, on the other hand, are the thicker plates, which are also produced in different processes. There are rolled plates and cast plates. The main difference between these two processes is that the cast plates have a significantly lower residual stress and can therefore demonstrate their clear advantage over the rolled plates during further processing, for example by CNC milling. For this reason, cast plates are also predominantly used in toolmaking. There are two main differences between cast plates.

On the one hand the normal aluminum plates and on the other hand the aluminum plates with a milled surface. For this purpose, the raw cast plates are precision-milled on both sides, resulting in a very flat surface with only the slightest deviations in terms of consistent, continuous thickness tolerance and surface roughness. After milling, these aluminum plates are covered with a protective film on both sides to protect them from scratches or similar during storage and handling. The protective film has such a high level of adhesion that it adheres so well to the cast aluminum panels that, despite the film, they can be easily transported using our vacuum suction cups and placed on our panel saws for cutting without damage. This ensures that the surface cannot be damaged by forklift tines at any time.

Buy top quality aluminum plates

High-quality aluminum sheets and aluminum plates should be purchased from the right partner - because this is the only way to ensure the quality that must be maintained with such an important material as aluminum plates.

You can use our configurator to enter the dimensions you need directly and immediately see the price of the aluminum blanks using a live calculation. You do not need to create a customer account for this. Our configurator is open to everyone. In our online store, we supply all our customers, whether private end users, companies or corporate groups, with aluminum sheets and plates at a fair price with a flexible delivery service.

Cutting aluminum plate - delivery times for aluminum plate cut to size

In times of Amazon, Ebay and the like, the expected delivery times for end consumers are getting shorter and shorter. Whereas a few years ago, delivery times of 2 weeks were still normal for an aluminum plate cut to size, this would no longer be accepted by end consumers today. Only for commercial customers who need larger quantities of aluminum plates cut to size are these delivery times still normal.

As we have specialized in the delivery of small quantities of cut-to-size sheets via our online store, a short delivery time is also possible for the much more complex production of cut-to-size plates. Normally, we deliver an aluminum plate cut to size within 1-3 days after ordering from our warehouse.

Custom-made aluminum plate with short delivery time

This is made possible by a sophisticated plate optimization system. For example, if we receive an order for 20 mm thick aluminum cast plates in milled design, our software immediately includes all existing orders in which these plates occur in the sawing plan to be created. This ensures that a large plate of 4-5 square meters is only "touched" once to produce all cuts. This has the advantage that work can be carried out very effectively and quickly, as the majority of the time is still taken up by the handling of such aluminum plates. Just imagine that 300 kg have to be moved for a 5 m² 20 mm aluminum plate. This lies on a pallet in a high rack and has to be removed by forklift and moved in front of the saw by our crane.

The plate is then moved onto the CNC plate saw using a crane and vacuum lifter and then the CNC sawing plan is fed in. In between, finished cuts are removed from the saw so that the remaining aluminum plate can be sawn open unhindered down to the rest that is no longer needed. The remaining panel is then placed back on the pallet using a vacuum lifter and transported back to our rack using a forklift truck As you can imagine, this process is very time-consuming. If a system is not used from the outset that enables the production time to be perfectly reduced to a minimum, there is no way of making up for this elsewhere.

Flexible selection of aluminum sheet according to size and quality

In our range you will find various plates and sheets, which you can select according to thickness and alloy (using our alloy filter). You are also free to cut them to size, whereby you can enter the size of the sheet yourself. This means you always have the option of ordering the right sheet for your individual project.

Which alloy should I choose?

Aluminum sheet is known for its wide range of applications thanks to the various properties of the different alloys. Despite its low density, it offers a high level of robustness, quality and flexibility in use that is hard to find in any other material. As there are a wide variety of alloys in our range, you are sure to find the right variant for every application. No matter whether you want to mill, polish or bend the material. Depending on the alloy selected, all of this is possible. We can even supply plates that have already been plate-milled on both sides with protective film in a drilling and milling quality from stock. The fact that aluminum does not rust is also an excellent argument for purchasing such plates, which are often replaced by our customers in the private sector with existing wooden plates, thus guaranteeing a long service life.

Incidentally, aluminum plates are also excellent heat conductors and are therefore also used as heat sinks (right after copper plates). When choosing the right aluminum alloy, a look at our materials science will certainly help you. Here are the most important alloys of our aluminum sheets and aluminum plates. AlMg3 - new standard We can generally recommend AlMg3 for bending, anodizing or welding. AlMg4.5Mn - new standard AlMg4.5Mn0.7 is ideal for welding and machining and is frequently used in mechanical engineering. AlCuMg1 - new standard AlCu4MgSi (A) is also excellently suited for machining and has an even higher tensile strength than AlMg4.5Mn. However, it is not suitable for welding.

AlZnMgCu1.5 - new standard AlZn5.5MgCu can also be machined very well and is preferred for use in the aerospace industry and for particularly safety-relevant parts due to its very high strength. Do not be confused by the new designations. 95% of all users still use the old DIN designations. This is certainly due to the fact that most of them are significantly shorter and also because what has been used for years does not change from one day to the next.

Possible uses of aluminum sheets and plates

Where are aluminum sheets and plates actually used?

As plates can be processed in all conceivable thicknesses and dimensions, the range of applications for this material is almost inexhaustible. They are used in vehicle construction as well as on building sites as cladding for facades or in interiors as eye-catchers. As our aluminum plates are therefore very versatile, there are almost no limits. Plates and sheets made of aluminum are also used in mechanical engineering and toolmaking. Aluminum sheets also have an important area of application in aviation.

The low weight combined with the very high load-bearing capacity of some alloys gives it unimaginable advantages over steel. In addition, private users can plan smaller construction projects in the home, hobby or garden very well with the sheets. Processing with normal tools is also very easy - there is no need for expensive tools.

Quality and service – aluminum plates
