Depending on the application, EN AW-5754, EN AW-5083 and anodised EN AW-6060 profiles can be suitable for outdoor use. Moisture, mechanical load, contact with other metals and the required finish must all be considered.
EN AW-5754 and EN AW-5083 are generally considered easy to weld. EN AW-6082 can also be welded, although strength may be reduced around the weld. The process and filler material depend on the alloy, material thickness and application.
EN AW-6060 is often used for readily formable, decorative profiles and is well suited to anodising. EN AW-6082 generally offers higher strength and is more commonly used for load-bearing structures. Suitability also depends on the temper and component.
Slot 6 is commonly used for compact profiles and lighter structures, while slot 8 is used with larger profile series and higher loads. Connectors, slot nuts and covers must match the slot width, profile series and dimensions; slot 6 and slot 8 accessories are not automatically interchangeable.
