Customer Project: Extendable Camper Bed with Aluminum Profiles

A van conversion doesn't always have to be off-the-shelf. This beautiful customer project by Burkhard Neumann from Wolfenbüttel demonstrates just that. For their VW T7, he and his wife Nicole wanted a solution that perfectly suited their vehicle, their travel routine, and the needs of their Labrador retriever. That's why they opted for a custom DIY build using our aluminum profiles.

The result is a flexible sleeping system with an extendable bed – a customized solution for building a camper bed in a VW T7. Additionally, there's a pull-out for the cooler and a cozy sleeping area for the dog under the bed.

Flexible Bed for the VW T7

When pushed together, the construction measures approximately 1.20 x 1.00 meters. This allows for three individual seats to still be installed in the vehicle if needed. When extended, it creates a sleeping surface of almost 1.20 x 2.00 meters. A pull-out for the cooler was also integrated to keep it easily accessible in everyday life and on trips.

Particularly practical: Depending on use, two seats could even remain under the bed. In this conversion, however, the area under the bed is designed as a cozy sleeping place for the dog.

Easy Installation and Removal

The upper level of the sleeping system can be dismantled using corner connectors. This allows the conversion to be quickly removed from or reinstalled in the vehicle. This also makes handling much easier, even for one person.

The fastenings in the system profiles provide the necessary stability for the entire installation. This creates a stable, modular construction that is precisely tailored to the vehicle, everyday life, and travel habits.

This project beautifully demonstrates how flexibly aluminum profiles can be used in camper and van conversions. Whether it's a bed frame, pull-out, storage space, dog sleeping area, or modular level: System profiles allow for customized solutions that can later be expanded or adapted as needed.
