Customer project: DIY VW T7 sleeping system

A van conversion doesn't always have to be off-the-shelf. This beautiful customer project by Burkhard Neumann from Wolfenbüttel proves just that. For their VW T7, he and his wife Nicole wanted a solution that perfectly fit their vehicle, their travel routine, and the needs of their Labrador. That’s why they opted for a custom DIY build using our aluminum profiles.

The result is a flexible sleeping system with a pull-out bed – a bespoke solution for building a camper bed in a VW T7 yourself. Additionally, there is a pull-out for the cool box and a cozy sleeping area for their dog underneath the bed.

Flexible Bed for the VW T7

When pushed together, the construction measures approx. 1.20 x 1.00 meters. This allows three individual seats to remain installed in the vehicle if needed. When extended, it creates a sleeping surface of nearly 1.20 x 2.00 meters. A pull-out for the cool box was also integrated to ensure it remains easily accessible for daily use and travel.

Particularly practical: depending on how it’s used, two seats could even remain installed under the bed. In this configuration, however, the area under the bed is intended as a cozy sleeping spot for the dog.

Easy Installation and Removal

The upper level of the sleeping system can be dismantled using corner connectors. This allows the conversion to be quickly removed from the vehicle or reinstalled. It also makes handling much easier even for one person.

The fasteners in the system profiles provide the necessary support for the entire setup. This creates a stable, modular construction that is perfectly tailored to the vehicle, daily routines, and travel habits.

Custom Van Conversion with Aluminum Profiles

The project beautifully demonstrates how flexibly aluminum profiles can be used in camper and van conversions. Whether it’s a bed frame, pull-out, storage space, dog sleeping spot, or a modular level: system profiles allow for individual solutions that can be expanded or adjusted later if needed.
